Skill or will – McKenna tells Foley he wins regardless of the nature of the fight

Tyrone McKenna [18(6)-1-1] has told Darragh Foley [17(9)-2-1] he can have it any which way he wants it because ultimately it won’t stop him emerging the victor when the pair meet on June 21.

The MTK fighters meet in an eagerly anticipated Belfast Dublin derby at the Ulster Hall this day next week with most predicting fireworks.

Indeed, the Dublin half of the fight, Foley believes such is both fighters history with wars that ‘something incredible’ is on the cards.

Rangy southpaw McKenna has been working on using his physical advantages while trying quash his tear up desire of late prompting some to predict he may try and out box the Australian based Blanch native on the top of the ESPN+ broadcast card.

Yet the ‘Mighty Celt’ claims he has no issue trading with ‘Super’ as he believes the nature of the fight won’t effect the outcome. McKenna claims be it a war or a skills showing from him the result will be the same.

“I can box, I can go to war. I can do a bit of both – I don’t mind. Everybody knows I love to fight and get dragged into the trenches. I’m there for the trenches,” McKenna said.

“I’ve been in the gym with Danny Vaughan practicing getting back to my boxing. We’ve been working on moving and defence and that’s what I’ll try and do on the night.

“Who knows what’ll happen on the night because the crowd always plays into things so I might end up going to war after all!

“Even if I do go for a war, I’m still going to win. I believe I’m better than him in every single department and regardless of what happens tactically, I’ll get my hands on that belt.”

McKenna was last in action out pointing Oscar Amador at the same venue, while Foley blasted Rusmin Kie Raha aside inside four rounds over in Australia.

A fantastic bill also includes the WBO European light-heavyweight title clash between former sparring partners Steven Ward and Liam Conroy, an intriguing welterweight match-up between Paddy Gallagher and Liam Wells plus the likes of Lewis Crocker, Taylor McGoldrick and Owen O’Neill on the undercard.
