Size doesn’t matter says Joe Hillerby ahead of Big John Waldron clash

Joe Hillerby is a firm ‘size doesn’t matter’ man.

The former light middleweight Irish title challenger Joe Hillerby takes on former Irish light heavyweight domestic strap holder in the Devinish Complex on Saturday night but isn’t worried about sharing the ring with a bonafide big man.

The Belfast puncher, who has won and lost since ending an 18 month ring sabbatical, has designs on moving back down the weights and believes he can be more effective in and around middleweight, but suggests he brains can see him defeat the more brawn gifted light heavies in the mean time.

“I go into this fight expecting to win how I win doesn’t matter to me to be honest,” Hillerby told Irish-boxing.com.

“I don’t think size will come into play in this fight. I am feeling strong and confident.

“I do plan on going down in weight and fights like this will help keep me motivated, hopefully I ca stay active and have a few fights in before Christmas.”

Derby clashes are nothing new the Sandyrow favourite he has shared the ring with Tommy Tolan, Willie Thompson, Dee Tagart, Lee Murtagh and Robbie Long in a 13 fight career. He adds Waldron, who hasn’t fought since 2013 and comes into the bout on the back of three knock out defeats, to the list of local opposition this coming Saturday night and claims such fights are make for more exciting participation.

“I have seen a couple of Johns fights and he’s a tough opponent. It is a good fight for me. These are the fights I like to be in and look forward to more.”
