Amanda Serrano isn’t going to hang around and wait to fight Katie Taylor according to Lou DiBella

The seven-division world champion and the undisputed lightweight queen are continually linked and it’s widely agreed a meeting of the pair has potential to go down as the biggest ever fight in female boxing history.

That ‘mega’ clash appears to be next on the Taylor wish list, indeed if she gets through Christina Linardatou in Manchester tonight, it’s understood a clash with Serrano awaits in early Spring. In fact both sides have suggested the deal is done and the contract is signed.

However, Serrano’s promoter Lou Di Bella revealed the outspoken star doesn’t want to wait for around for the Taylor fight and has big fight New Year plans.

DiBella, who co-promotes Joe Ward with Ken Casey, claims negotiations are currently underway for a January super fight with Canada’s Jelena Mrdjenovich.

“In order to keep momentum going in women’s boxing, we have to make the biggest fights available and we have to make them regularly,” said DiBella.

“Until Amanda fights Katie, that fight’s gonna be talked about, but the reality is that Amanda right now is the defending featherweight champion and she can’t wait around. She has to stay active, and the biggest fight at featherweight that can be made is Jelena and Amanda, and that’s also one of the biggest fights in all of women’s boxing that can be made.”

The bout would be a meeting of two natural punchers, would be for the WBO, WBC and WBA 126lbs straps and is said to have peaked the interest of DAZN.

“It’s a sensational fight,” said DiBella.

“It’s very rare that you can say in a women’s fight that it’s unlikely to go the distance. But here is a fight that with two-minute rounds you can still say it’s unlikely to go the distance. Both women are among the best in the world and both women are big punchers.”

Making the Mrdjenovich fight doesn’t necessarily put paid to the Taylor fight, but it may effect the proposed time frame for it.

There was talk of February in New York, but March would now look the earliest possible date, or it’s possible Taylor moves Persoon to next on the list and delays the Serrano bout.

The Brooklyn-based Puerto Rican’s display against Heather Hardy certainly added to the excitement surrounding a Taylor match up, some more DAZN-broadcast victories may help with regard to making it a historic occasion.
