Jermall Charlo [29(21)-0] says he is going all out to become the first man to stop Dennis Hogan [28(7)-2(0)-1].

The American puts his WBC world middleweight title on the line against the Australian based Irish man in Brooklyn on Saturday night and is determined to register career stoppage number 22.

Speaking during fight week the two weight world champ steered clear of the often trotted out ‘if it comes it comes’ line in favour of admitting he will actively search for the punch that can ensure an early night.

“You hear fighters say that they’re not going for the knockout, but I am,” said Charlo. “If I hit Hogan with something flush, he’s going to sleep.”

It’s just brash American talk from the confident champion there is some logic to what appear bold claims.

The former light middleweight champion of the world feels he has grown into middleweight over his last three fights and thus feels a bigger threat.

It has to be noted Hogan, who has heard similar predictions ahead of all his recent fights, has never been stopped and rarely looked in anyway physically troubled as a pro.

Indeed, he has been in with bigger men during life as a International light heavyweight, but still Charlo is adamant he will play the power game.

“I’m in shape. I’m strong. I’m going for the knockout if it’s there. If he thinks he can bully me, then I’ll show him he made a big mistake. I’m back where I want to be. It took me a little while to fill out into a true middleweight, but I’m here now.”

Charlo goes into the clash on the back of two unanimous decisions and there were suggestions he didn’t bring the power that saw him register five knockouts from the six previous fights up from 154lbs.

Predicting he can stop a fighter with a proven chin and suggesting the Kildare fighter, who out boxed Jaime Munguia last time out will come to bully him, prompted some to query whether or not he has done his homework.

However, the champion claims he is well versed in the ways and even movements of ‘The Hurricane’.

“I know everything about Hogan,” he continued.

“I know he’s been in Florida thinking that he’s getting ready for me. He has no idea. He’s a small slugger who’s got to worry about his weight, but I’m going sit right there and fight with Hogan. I’m not going anywhere. My mind is sharper than his also, but if he wants to make it a brawl, I’m ready.”

Saturday will be Charlo’s fourth time to visit the Barclays Center as one of the attractions and despite pushing to have the fight in Texas, only for the request to be rebuffed by DDP Sports, he claims he is happy to returning to New York.

“I love Brooklyn,” he said when speaking about the Showtime showdown.

“Brooklyn is almost my second home. Lately; I’ve been fighting my big fights here.”
