Second Fighter Revealed for Ireland’s Last Man Standing

A second fighter has been revealed for the upcoming Ireland’s Last Man Standing competition.

The eight-man, Prizefighter-style tournament takes place in Dublin on Saturday March 3rd at the National Stadium and we now know the identity of a quarter of the participants.

Following Irish-Boxing.com’s reveal of the shock return of amateur star Roy Sheahan last week, promoters Red Corner and Assassin Boxing have now confirmed Bernard Roe [6(1)-0] for the bill.

After over a year out of the ring, the light middleweight returned and finished 2017 strongly, stopping Radoslav Mitev and stepping up to six rounds to outpoint Willie Warburton.

The Dubliner had stated his interest in Ireland’s Last Man Standing last year, and will look to continue the Celtic Warriors Gym’s good record in the format after Jono Carroll’s Prizefighter Lightweights win in December 2014 and Luke Keeler’s unfortunate semi-final exit from Prizefighter Middleweights in February 2015.

Roe described how “it is an honour to get the chance to fight in this competition. It is a huge opportunity for me, and I will look to grab it with both hands. The chance to box in a full capacity National Stadium is a dream for me, and the exposure I will get is great.”

“This will be a very difficult task, but I thrive on big fights, and you will see the best of me when I am in there with someone that has the same level of ambition as myself.”

“Being from Dublin is a huge bonus, and with all the coverage the competition is getting, I hope to have a lot of support.”

“Paschal [Collins, coach] trained Jono Carroll and Luke Keeler for the Prizefighter, he has a way of preparing you. I am an unbeaten prospect and I have nothing to lose. It’s a winner takes all competition, and I will give every effort to make sure I am Ireland’s Last Man Standing.”

Jonathan Graham from Red Corner Promotions added that “the line up we have for this competition is excellent. Roe is the first boxer we are officially announcing, with the rest to be announced next week, at our press conference.”

“Roe is a serious talent, and on his day can beat anyone. He’ll be involved in some 50/50 fights, and his exciting style is one to watch. He’ll bring a superb crowd from Dublin with him too.”

The 26 year old Sheriff Street fighter will be at the press conference at the National Stadium on Tuesday at 2:00pm to announce the full line-up.
