Second Cummings- ‘Mr Dynamite’ ready putting dark days behind him

Conrad Cummings [16(7)-3(0)-1] is in such a good place now that he can even see the positives in his recent dark times.

‘Mr Dynamite’ has recently been very open with regard falling into a rut and struggling mentally over the past few years.

Things escalated for the middleweight after his second defeat to Luke Keeler earlier this year, at time everything appeared bleak to the very down 28-year-old.

He returns to the ring on the #MTKFightNight this weekend in a much different place and is predicting a return of the Conrad Cummings people were excited about early in his pro career.

It’s a fresh start for the Coalisland middle and he believes those dark days can spark something positive and lead to him delivering on his promise.

“Old cliches are a little beat to death sometimes, but I’m going get it and get this train rollin’ again,” Cummings chirped to Irish-boxing.com.

“Fans will see more of the old Conrad and a glimpse of what’s the come [this weekend]. They say before some great happens you every thing falls apart,” he adds.

It’s a big turn around for the fighter, but it’s only the start. The former WBS standout is taking things one day at a time, but is confident that if he maintains the current mindset he can achieve great things in the sport.

“One day at a time. I put my head down and put full focus on my boxing, I’m still doing things and things are great at the minute, I’m happy and content. Plus I’m extremely excited for the future. I only turned 28 I’m very experienced and I will use all this now going forward and finally get to fulfill my potential.”

From the outside looking in it was hard to see any issues with a fighter that always appeared content and jovial. Things may have been different to those around him on a more regular basis and indeed those closest to the 160lbs puncher.

However, in some open and honest interviews and again being quite straight with Irish-boxing.com in the lead up to his return he confirms just how bad things got.

“I was down for a number of reasons, too many to name, but I felt my entire life collapsed around me at the one time. I was in a bad bad rut, behaving nothing like myself. Thank God I have a great support system around me. To be honest It was a long time coming and it all come at a very unfortunate time as regards my boxing career.”

Cummings returns on an exciting Ulster Hall, ESPN+ and iFLTV broadcast bill tonight and will look to return to winning ways against Polish journey man Adam Grabiec [7(1)-27(7)].

The now Glean ABC fighter will be expected to register victory and will be confident of doing so. The bout is more about getting the ring rust off and enjoying boxing than anything else.

“He is a tough Polish dude. I’m just focused on going out and performing and getting the rust off… and enjoying it in the meantime.”
