Scott Quigg picks Carl Frampton to prevail in Josh Warrington clash

Carl Frampton has too much for Josh Warrington and will defeat the Leeds fighter should they meet claims Scott Quigg.

The Belfast featherweight and the new IBF world champion are on a collision course and could meet in Manchester before the year is out if common promoter Frank Warren is to be believed.

If, as expected, they do trade leather, Quigg, who was defeated by Frampton in a super bantamweight unification in Manchester back in February of 2016, believes his old rival will emerge victorious.

“I think Frampton wins that fight,” Quigg told Ring News 24.

The Bury native, who has expressed a willingness to rematch ‘The Jackal’ on August 18th Windsor Park, isn’t reading too much into Warrington’s Lee Selby win earlier this month – a sentiment shared by Frampton.

The Freddie Roach-trained feather claims Warrington still has to get a world class name on his résumé, arguing that dethroned champ Selby, while undoubtedly a world class operator when at full capacity, can’t be considered a top level at featherweight.

“Up until Warrington beating Selby, he’s never shown he was world class,” the Matchroom fighter outlined.

“He’s never beaten a world class name. Selby was one too many fights at featherweight for him. I think the weight did hamper him. Taking nothing away from Warrington’s performance, he got his tactics spot on,” he added.

Quigg did stress Warrington has the tools to cause Frampton some problems but remains confident the Tiger’s Bay 31-year-old would be ‘comfortable favourite’ if the pair meet.

“If Frampton-Warrington fought, you’d have to say Frampton would be the favourite and be a pretty comfortable favourite. Warrington could cause him some problems by applying pressure if he can avoid getting hit on the way in.”

“I thought Warrington boxed well against Selby, he picked his moments when to fight, he moved well and tried rushing Selby and it worked.”

“His team did a good job, but I will say Frampton beats Warrington.”
