Ryan Greene grabs great comeback win

After almost five years, Ryan Greene made his return to the ring in Belfast tonight with a victory.

The Lurgan light middleweight had not fought since his painful defeat to Eamonn O’Kane way back in the semi finals of the All-Irish Prizefighter Middleweights.

Here ‘Mr Mean’ made his return against experienced Bognor Regis journeyman Liam Griffiths and grinded out a well-deserved points win.

Greene was understandably rusty at the start in what was a scrappy battle of the southpaws to begin with.

The Armagh boxer had begun to find his groove by the third, but would be cut by a punch from Griffiths who was boxing a lot more ambitiously than what he is known for – perhaps sensing the chance for a are wn.

33 year old  Greene however dominated the final round as a tired Griffiths sought to constantly hold.

Going to the cards, Greene was awarded the win with a tally of 40:37 in his favour.

The win sees Greene finally improve his record to 7(1)-1(1), while the ledger of Griffiths falls to 5(0)-71(3)-1 following his night’s work.
