Rodriguez vows to ruin Frampton’s World Title plans – Claims he is being overlooked

He has been written off by most in the boxing community but Emmanuel Dominguez has pledged to end Carl Frampton’s world title plans.

The unheralded Mexican takes on ‘The Jackal’ at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia on Saturday August 10th and, while Frampton himself is promising not to overlook Dominguez, many are looking ahead.

With Dominguez [26(18)-8(2)-2] having been blasted out early by the British-level Jordan Gill earlier this year, it is hard to imagine him causing problems for two-weight world champion Frampton.

An end-of-year showdown with WBO champion and new Top Rank stablemate Oscar Valdez is being constantly mooted for the Belfast boxer who is looking to make a final charge following his loss to IBF titlist Josh Warrington last time out.

However, Frampton won’t get this chance if Dominguez is to be believed.

The Aguascalientes 25-year-old feels, probably correctly, that he is being overlooked and claims that this is providing him with an added spur to pull off one of the biggest shocks in recent boxing history.

Dominguez doesn’t even feature on the fight poster but is adamant that it won’t be a one-man show on August 10th.

“I am not a stepping stone. I am coming to Philadelphia prepared to ruin Carl’s plans,” he states defiantly.

“Carl Frampton is already looking ahead to an Oscar Valdez fight, which gives me added motivation.”

The Tiger’s Bay 32-year-old is back training under Jamie Moore in Manchester ahead of the 10-round clash.

Frampton [26(15)-2(0)] has noted previously that Dominguez will be hungry and this definitely appears to be the case.

Whether this hunger can translate to anything in the ring, however, remains to be seen.
