‘Rock’ gets ball rolling for potentially big year – Ormond wins in London

Stephen Ormond shook off the ring rust and took a necessary step toward a potentially big 2019 with victory at at the Brentwood Centre in London this afternoon.

‘The Rock’ accounted for Oscar Amador in shut out fashion registering a 40-36 points win.

The Clondalkin fighter was always expected to record victory over the Spanish based Nicaragua-born fighter, but it was an important fight and result nonetheless.

At 35, Ormond, a fighter that never really got the kind of opportunities his talent deserved or suffered due the timing of his biggest chances, most likely has to do it big this year if he is ever going to at all.

The fighter, who holds a brilliant win over Derry Mathews, has said as much himself and now having gotten the juices flowing again  after seven months out will be targeting some bigger names and possibly ranking titles over the coming months.

The Paschal Collins-trained fighter was his busy self throughout, throwing punches in bunches, working body and head in flurries and had a bounce in his step over the four rounds – a last minute drop from six.

He seemed as if he had another gear in him against a fighter that did come to fight, but was happy to bank the rounds against a man that has shared the ring with Dylan Moran and Lewis Ritson.

The win see’s Ormond push his record to 27(13)-5(1) while Amador drops to 10(1)-14(5).
