Respect – Geraghty and Carroll share kind words after superb rematch

One of the longest running grudges in Irish boxing was settled in the ring in Belfast on Saturday night.

After four years of verbal back and forths and some fired-up exchanges of the non-lethal kind, Jono Carroll and Declan Geraghty rematched on a successful and entertaining Michael Conlan Homecoming card.

Carroll won the Dublin derby via a sensational and relentless display live on BT Sport, Geraghty won plaudits for the guts he showed to stay in there until round nine, and the fans were winners in terms of being served up another entertaining encounter.

There was even a win for boxing as a sport after the eagerly anticipated repeat. The Dublin pair left their differences of which there were many over the years in the ring and the grudge seems to be well and truly settled.

The pair embraced and swapped compliments on more than one occasion in the dressing rooms after the clash.

Geraghty was hurting physically and mentally but remained gracious in defeat, full of praise for his long time rival and took to social media along with Carroll to show the gentleman side of the sport.
