Recent Irish title challenger John Hutchinson ready to take a more patient approach

JOHN Hutchinson is ready to bank as much experience as possible before trying to cash in at title level again.

The Donegal fought the experienced Peter McDonnagh for the Irish light middleweight in just his eight bout making the massive jump from four to 10 rounds last time out. The dramatic increase in rounds and level of opponent ultimately proved too much for the 28 year old light middleweight and he suffered a first career defeat.

The fight anywhere anytime kind of fighter, certainly doesn’t regret taking a chance, but ahead of his ring return in Villa Park this week he told Irish-boxing.com that he has learnt the small steps in the right direction can be more beneficial than a giant leap forward.

“Career wise I’m still learning , I’ve learnt a lot  from my last fight, jumping from four rounders to 10 in sort time. You really need more experience to jump up levels and it is not just about taking a chance. I am not looking past Saturday night but I have a few fights lined up. I plan to keep busy stepping up the rounds bit by bit and learning my trade before I push for bigger fights,” said ‘Hutch’.

It is back to journey man opposition for the Irish puncher as Danny Shannon mans the opposite corner come Saturday night, but Hutchinson is still predicting a tough fight.

“I am boxing Danny Shannon from London. I think he’s had 3 fights 2 loss one draw, but has an unlicensed back ground . I know he is very tough and game. He might not have  the best skill set, but he is coming for the win himself after drawing his last fight with unbeaten fighter.”

Hutchinson, who has fought in Birmingham before and has a following in the English city, is in confident mood and has been buoyed by Donegal’s recent All Ireland semi final win over the Dubs.

“Looking forward to getting back on track in winning ways Saturday night, I’m in a good place at the moment. I have great trainers and a great manager now .I couldn’t be happier and things are moving and coming along, I will show how much I have improved come Saturday.

“Donegal’s success has proved a boost it’s great for Donegal. The win lifts everyone spirits and I want to keep that feel good factor going.”
