PREDICTIONS: Irish boxers pick their Last Man Standing winner

Ireland’s middleweight Last Man Standing will be decided tonight.

Middleweights JJ McDonagh, Roy Sheahan, Ger Healy, and Chris Blaney, super middleweight Vladimir Belujsky, and English fighters Nick Quigley, Jack Cullen, and Owen Jobburn, will throw down in the Prizefighter-style tournament looking to secure a €25,000 winner’s cheque and the mandatory slot for the Irish title.

It’s a tournament which has split opinion, and Irish boxing fans have varying views on who will be crowned winner tonight, live on TG4.

The same can be said for Irish boxers, with the island’s other middleweights making contrasting predictions for the big night at the National Stadium.

Jay Quigley – [13(10)-0]
Ballybofey
Irish-Boxing Ranking: #2 Middleweight
It’s hard to look past JJ McDonagh and Roy Sheahan. Chris Blaney is going to give it a real go. Because of Sheahan’s inactivity, I would have to go with McDonagh.

Luke Keeler – [13(5)-2(1)-1]
Ballyfermot
Irish-Boxing Rankings: #4 Middleweight

Connor Coyle – [7(2)-0]
Derry
Irish-Boxing Ranking: Middleweight #7
I definitely think it wil be between Roy Sheahan and Chris Blaney. Chris has more pro experience, but Roy has a lot of amateur experience, and the fights are 3×3 min rounds. So it’ll be interesting to see what way they perform in each fight to get to the final. It’ll be a war each round.

Darren Cruise – [8(2)-6(0)]
Castlerea
Irish-Boxing Ranking: Middleweight #9
I’m gonna go for JJ McDonagh for the winner closely followed by Roy Sheahan. I just think JJ’s experience and Roy’s inactivity will give JJ the edge.

Thomas Finnegan – [2(0)-0]
Tallaght
Irish-Boxing Ranking: Middleweight #13
I’ll go with Roy Sheahan.

Pádraig McCrory – [3(2)-0]
Belfast
Irish-Boxing Ranking: #1 Super Middleweight
I’ve got to go with my man Gerard Healy and his biggest danger could be Chris Blaney.

Jordan Latimer – [1(0)-0]
Sligo-Manchester
Obviously, I’d be tipping myself if I was still in it! I’m going for Roy Sheehan because of his experience in the amateurs – but I think it’s between him and McDonagh.

Henry Coyle – [19(12)-2(2)]
Geesala
The best man with the most luck on his side will win. Not a clue to be honest, but very best of luck to all.
