Pete Taylor won’t be in Katie’s corner at the Stadium tonight

It’s an evening of first for Ireland’s ground breaking sports star Katie Taylor.

The Bray BC lightweight has been presented with the chance to win her fifth Irish title, but her first in the ring as she fights Shauna O’Keefe in the National Stadium this evening.

And Olympic Champion and five time World champ Taylor will be looking to add to her long list of accomplishments without her father and coach in her corner.

For the first time in 10 years Pete Taylor will take up a seat ringside rather than in Taylor’s corner for the Irish title fight.

“After years it can be stressful watching your daughter fight. But I’ll be there in the crowd in the front.

“We are trying new things at the moment so we’ll see how it goes this time”, the Olympic champion’s father told the Irish Times.

Taylor is expected to be back in the corner of World boxing’s leading lady for the Olympic qualifiers which play out in Turkey in April.
