Paddy McDonagh eyeing three title fights after being “messed about” by David Bailey

A proposed Irish title fight on the eagerly anticipated Last Man Standing card may have fallen through, but Paddy McDonagh [12(0)-2(0)] is adamant he will partake in multiple title fights in 2018 regardless.

The fighter, who upset the bookies and delighted his fans with an impressive win over Stevie Collins Jr to reclaim the belt last Summer, was due to defend against David Bailey [7(1)-0] on the March 3rd TV card National Stadium.

However, with negotiations ongoing and the mandatory challenger suffering a broken thumb in training, the proposed fight was postponed.

The Mullingar light heavy will still appear on the stacked card, but claims it will be warm-up for what he hopes will be a belt laden year – with the Assassin Boxing fighter eyeing a hat-trick of title fights.

“This is my warm-up fight and then my next three fights for the year I want to be in title fights,” McDonagh told Irish-Boxing.com.

The Mullingar man outlines that the first of those title bouts will be against Bristol-Galway hardman Bailey, but he will then target bigger belts.

“David Bailey had messed me about so I’m going fight him. Then I want a step up, I want to fight for a title and get ranked by one of the governing bodies. But If there’s someone around to defend the Irish title – I will.”

“After March 3rd it’s only 10/12 rounders in after.”

The Irish light heavyweight champion will appear alongside Dylan McDonagh, Vladimir Belujsky, Dylan Moran, Cillian Reardon, Victor Rabei, and Allan Phelan on the early undercard of a bill which features a vacant Irish light middleweight title fight between Craig O’Brien and Jay Byrne as well as the inaugural eight-man single-elimination tournament at middleweight.
