Paddy Gallagher- it was never going to go 10 rounds

He was looking forward to the bell to end round one, but Paddy Gallagher produced a shot that produced the final toll of the bell on Saturday night.
After a high paced two minutes plus of action in his BBBofC Celtic title fight on Saturday night, the Belfast welterweight was looking forward to the end of the first round. The former Prizefighter contestant felt he could kill the exuberance of his previously undefeated foe and home fighter Tony Dixon by slowing things down and imposing his skill on the clash after the first stanza.
However, the chance to sit on his stool never arose as Gallagher dropped his foe with this shot and Dixon never recovered.
Speaking to Irish-boxing.com this week Gallagher was delighted with the finish and the platform (Spike TV) it was aired on.
“It was good to get it (the win) like that, a one punch finish, live on TV, in a fight for a title and  the fact it came in the first round made it even better.
“I’d started very slow, and he started very well I was looking forward to getting the first out of the way so I could start different in the second.”
Gallagher went into the fight adamant he wasn’t going to lose and claiming he wanted it more. The 27 year old, whose record now reads 10-2, both reveres coming in a Prizefighter his other half has tried to ban talk of, felt with 10 rounds to land clean he was always going to get the stoppage, although he didn’t expect it to come so early.
“I thought I would have stopped him at some point to be honest. Ten rounds is a long time and I just didn’t think it could last that long and again I wasn’t getting beat.”
Winning such a title should open doors for the welterweight and the fact the strap is a Bristish Boxing Board of Control belt could indeed open the path way for a British title shot.
Gallagher, who has proved a regular on Cyclone Promotion shows, will now sit down with Jake, Blaine and Barry McGuigan to work out a plan going forward and he will most likely continue his journey fighting on the promotional companies TV shows.
“Yes we (Cyclone and Gallagher) have something on the go now regarding fights and my career, so I am happy with that. Regarding what’s next I am not sure whether if it’ll be a defence of the title or not but I’ll let the men in charge sort that.”
