Owen Duffy [1(1)-0] makes his ring return this Saturday night in Dublin following a sensational debut.
Back in March the Cavan light middleweight debuted with a first round knockout of Antoni Hristov.
The early finish surprised even Duffy, who was an under-the-radar debutant.
This time round, on the Assassin ‘Rise Again’ show at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght, Duffy is hoping for a bit more ring experience.
Just getting back through the ropes, however, is the main thing for ‘The Butcher’.
An excited Duffy told Irish-Boxing.com that “everything’s going good, I’m like a kid at Christmas, I can’t wait to get back in, it’s been eight months.”
“I’ve been training hard, I’ve just been staying ready since the debut in March. I’m looking forward to getting back into it.”
“I didn’t plan for it to be eight months at all, I had the debut fight and I was straight back in training the following week. A few fights fell through – hopefully, now, I don’t have that run again and I’ll stay busy.”
Duffy, who is based in Dublin, hails from the tiny Cavan village of Shercock.
Despite this, the high-pressure puncher brought a large and loud crowd to his debut and he expects something similar this weekend.
Duffy explained how “boxing back home wouldn’t be a thing really, everyone’s excited for me because they know how much effort I put into it.”
“I might have to organise a second bus, things are looking good.”
When he does enter the ring, Slovak veteran Miro Dicky [4(1)-34(8)-2] will be the man in the opposite corner, and Duffy is hoping for the full four rounds rather than the 63 seconds he enjoyed back in March.
He admitted that “I definitely want to aim get rounds in but, same again, if an opportunity opens up or he slips or makes a mistake, I’ll jump on it, obviously.”
“But I’m not going to go jumping in thinking I can get a first round knockout, that’s never my gameplan. I want to go in, show what we’ve worked on, feel it out in the opening round, see what opens up, see his different tactics and then go from there.
“Prediction? I definitely feel confident, I’m in a lot better place confidence-wise than on my debut. Definitely a win, definitely a win.”
Following over half a year between fight #1 and fight #2, Duffy hopes to be as busy as possible in the coming months.
Now with Assassin Boxing, he outlined how “I definitely would like to move up to six rounds fights as soon as I can.”
“I still have a lot to learn, I want to get a few six round fights and then push for an Irish title fight.”
“Hopefully, all going well, we’ll get plenty of fights in in year one and then push for a title after year one.”
