On the verge of confirming a world title fight? Hogan walks away from eliminator for something bigger

Irish-boxing.com believe Dennis Hogan [28(7)-2-1] has turned down an American hosted Fox broadcast light middleweight world title eliminator.

It’s not that the ‘Hurricane’ is looking for an easy return or feels he needs a pace finder before returning to world level.

Rather the Australian based Irish fighter is said to have a massive and more favourable fight in the pipeline.

The 34-year-old was last seen being beyond harshly done by in a by now infamous world light middleweight title fight with Mexican Jaime Munguia in Mexico.

The defeat was said to have cost the Kildare native $5 million in future revenue and looked to jeopardize his world title dreams.

However, the performance against a fighter built as the man to rival Canelo Alvarez as a massive Mexican star increased the DDP Sports fighters stock significantly.

Indeed, offers have been coming in from all angles. Golden Boy were keen to do a rematch with Munguia, as were team Hogan, but a repeat was knocked back by Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions.

It also seems Al Haymon and his team at PBC were enamored by the recent world title challenger.

A fight with American starlet Erickson Lubin [21(16)-1(1)] and a WBC final eliminator as part of Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions series on Fox TV was proposed and explored in depth.

It’s said that some other appealing offers were put on the table, but that a move up in weight and a fight that would have lead to a shot at major middleweight name Jermall Charlo was the most concrete and thus the most appealing.

However, rumour now suggests something bigger has come along and Hogan may jump straight back into a world title fight.

DDP Sports were contacted for comment, but politely refused the request.
