Olympic gold medal odds for Ireland’s Olympians

Following a successful week in Samsun, Ireland added a further two boxers to their Brazil-bound jumbo jet.

Brendan Irvine and David Oliver Joyce joined Paddy Barnes, Mick Conlan, Steven Donnelly, and Joe Ward in Rio, and a further seven Irish fighters will attempt to join them over the coming months.

With the addition of the Belfast flyweight and Mullingar lightweight (as well as the avalanche of British qualifiers), Paddy Power have released updated betting odds for the coming Games.

Olympic gold medal favourites Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan have drifted slightly since last October, moving to 7/4 and 15/8 respectively.

Light heavyweight Joe Ward is 7/1, which seems generous for the World Championships silver medalist.

Welterweight Steven Donnelly has been stretched out to 33/1 for gold, although the Ballymena fighter is certainly one who enjoys being an underdog.

The newly-qualified Brendan Irvine is 25/1 for flyweight glory, while David Oliver Joyce is 18/1 to cap his Olympic fairytale with Gold in Rio.

While she, shockingly, did not qualify in Samsun, odds are available for Katie Taylor, and the Bray lightweight is a 4/7 favourite to retain her Olympic crown.
