Olympic Council of Ireland to ‘evaluate’ Conlan for post-fight rant

The Olympic Council of Ireland were not impressed with Mick Conlan’s actions yesterday following his farcical loss to Vladimir Nikitin in Rio.

The Belfast bantamweight was ridiculously adjudged to have lost his bantamweight Olympic quarter final to the Russian slugger, and Conlan hit out at the International Boxing Association (AIBA) afterwards.

The 24 year old roared and gestured at officials before giving an interview with RTÉ where he described the AIBA as “f*cking cheats.”

While the OCI agree that Conlan was unjustly denied by the judges, they did not approve of his actions and promised to evaluate them internally and potentially punish the Clonard boxer.

In a statement published yesterday they said:

“While we understand and share Michael’s disappointment with the decision today, the OCI does not condone his comments or conduct.”

“We will evaluate internally before taking any action on today’s events.”
