Noely Murphy enlists World Champion help ahead of New York headline fight tonight

Noely Murphy [12(2)-0] aims to move to the next level tonight in New York, and has enlisted some world champion help.

The Cork light welterweight headlines the DiBella Entertainment ‘Broadway Boxing’ card in Times Square, Manhattan, at the B.B. King Blues Club and Grill.

The Macroom fighter takes on Mikkel LesPierre [18(8)-0-1] over ten rounds for the WBC United States rankings title.

The bout is Murphy’s first at the 140lbs light welterweight limit, and to make the weight he and his team brought on board former WBO light welterweight world champion Chris Algieri for help with diet and weight cutting.

The move seemed to work, with Murphy coming in at a career-lowest 139.8lbs.

2017 saw Murphy claimed five wins, all against strong opponents, but LesPierre presents a potentially breakthrough step up.

The fight will be streamed live via the DiBella Entertainment Facebook page (link below).

Coverage begins at midnight (Irish time), however Murphy v LesPierre is not expected until a good while after this.
