No more Mr Nice Guys – Bad Blood emerges at McCullough-Geraghty weigh-in

The first crack in relations between Marco McCullough and Declan Geraghty appeared at the weigh-in for tomorrow’s IBF European rankings title clash in Belfast.

The Belfast v Dublin showdown is chief support to Ryan Burnett’s return on #MTKFightNight at the historic Ulster Hall and the build-up had been largely cordial until today.

After both super featherweights made weight, both clocking in at 129.5lbslb,they engaged in a frosty face-off.

At the conclusion Geraghty gestured to shake hands with McCullough but this was refused by the Shankill fighter.

McCullough explained afterwards that it was a response to comments made in the build-up by Dubliner Geraghty.

“It was payback for a few things he’s said,” stated McCullough.

“Like that he’s going to knock me out inside six rounds, that I can’t box or punch.”

“It’s nothing nasty. It’s just business time now until after the fight and then I’ll be happy to shake his hand,” he added before questioning ‘Pretty Boy’s” claim that he was on weight yesterday.

“I think he looked a bit gaunt on the scales. He definitely didn’t make weight yesterday like he said in the presser. He was half the man today that he was yesterday.”

Geraghty wasn’t too plussed by the handshake refusal and remarked afterwards that “I couldn’t give a ****.”

“It’s just a job and I plan on getting the job done in style.”

“I didn’t take anything away from it. He made weight. I made weight. No we’ve got a knock on.”
