Niall Kennedy would like a gentlemen’s fight with bitten David Price

Niall Kennedy [13(8)-0-1] is keen on a fight with high-profile Brit David Price.

The Wexford heavyweight wants a big fight to kick on having seen a clash with top U.S. prospect Darmani Rock fall through last month and has admitted that he has an eye on the Liverpudlian, stating that it would be an “honour” to face him.

Kennedy took to Twitter this afternoon to congratulate Price [24(19)-6(6)] on his viral fifth-round disqualification win over Kash Ali at the weekend.

On Saturday, Ali was thrown out of his clash with Price at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool for biting the big-hitting Olympic bronze medallist. It was Price’s second win in a row and now promoter Eddie Hearn has proposed putting him in with the winner of the Dave Allen v Lucas Browne clash later this month.

New England champion Kennedy, though, wouldn’t mind stepping in.

The Gorey Garda has been building patiently since his break-out win over Alexis Santos back in September 2017. Familiar to the Matchroom machine having sparred with prize asset Anthony Joshua as well as appearing on their bill in Boston last October, Kennedy is hopeful of a big opportunity this year.

This opportunity had looked to have came in Philadelphia last month but Kennedy saw World Youth gold medallist Rock pull out of their mooted clash on the Farmer-Carroll undercard and he instead racked up another win on a Murphys Boxing show in Boston.

Price remains an extremely dangerous puncher, but both his chin and his conditioning have proven to be glaring flaws – as well as contributing to a mix that makes the Englishman ‘guaranteed entertainment’.

Conversely, Kennedy’s fitness and durability have proven to be two of his greater assets over the years.

Previously Price was scheduled to fight Dubliner Sean Turner in Belfast back in October but this fight fell through, with ‘Big Sexy’ not being in a condition to give the best account of himself.

35 next month, Kennedy is currently back in the beginnings of camp at Celtic Warriors Gym and fight news is awaited.
