New Headline Opponent announced for ‘Leeside Revolution’ bill

The headline opponent has been confirmed for next weeks big pro show in Cork.

The ‘Leeside Revolution’ bill at the Neptune Stadium on Saturday July 20th has always been due to be headlined by Noely Murphy but the Macroom light welter has cycled through opponents.

Initially Murphy [13(2)-1(0)-1] was due to box Jay Byrne for the Irish welterweight title but the Loughlinstown man would pull out and in stepped another Dubliner n East Wall’s Jake Hanney. Alas, Hanney would also withdraw and today a second replacement was announced.

Having exhausted all potential Irish and BUI Celtic title options, Murphy will instead box in a non-title international contest on the Martin Horgan-promoted card.

The opponent next week will be Hungarian Adam Mate [28(21)-14(11)] over eight rounds.

The experienced Magyar has followed a well-worn route throughout his career, building his record at home and suffering defeats – usually by early stoppage – on the road.

Mate was beaten in one by Stephen Ormond way back in 2013 and has also fought world champions in Josh Taylor and Robert Guerrero but shouldn’t pose too much trouble for the New York-based Murphy.

Murphy’s manager, Kevin Crowley, explained how “Noel would have loved to fight for the Irish title and is a proud Irishman but we can’t do anything about it. Our focus now is on Adam Mate on the 20th and Neptune Stadium will be rocking.”

The card next week features an all-Irish light middleweight battle between Eddie Treacy and Owen Duffy and also includes appearances for Katelynn Phelan, Graham McCormack, Chris Blaney, Siobhan O’Leary, Vladimir Belujsky, Craig O’Brien, Craig McCarthy, Dominic Donegan, and Sam Carroll as well as an exhibition bout for amateur Tommy Hyde and a full card of Muay Thai action.
