NEW Cork Headline fight CONFIRMED

The Leeside Revolution bill in Cork next month has found itself a new headline attraction.

It has been announced this Sunday evening that the show at Neptune Stadium on July 20th will be headlined by a fight between home favourite Noely Murphy [13(2)-1(0)-1] and Dublin firecracker Jake Hanney [5(4)-2(1)].

Macroom’s Murphy has always been due to take place in the bill’s headliner, initially against another Dubliner in Jay Byrne.

However, following ‘The Negotiator’s’ withdrawal, Hanney has entered the fray.

The East Wall ‘Wizard’ made a return from over two years out back in March with a competitive loss to Victor Rabei in a BUI Celtic light welterweight challenge, live on TG4. The fight on the Leeside Revolution show will take place seven pounds north in the welterweight class.

Murphy-Byrne was due to be for the Irish welterweight title last held by Peter McDonagh and promoter Martin Horgan has stated that this will remain the case for Murphy-Hanney.

Irish-Boxing.com understands that Hanney will first be required to bump up his record and a plan is in the works for a fight in England for the Eddie Hyland-trained puncher.

While it is intended to be for the welterweight title, there should not be too much, if any, of a size differential, with both having shown their ability to make light welterweight.

Most recently Murphy scored a dominant win over John Joyce in Boston and the Rebel will certainly be favourite on July 20th but Hanney is said to be extremely confident having shed the ring rust against Rabei last time out.
