More opponents named for ‘A New Era’

Two further opponents have been confirmed for Kieran Farrell’s debut Belfast show.

The young Manchester promoter has signed up a hatful of Irish talent and enters into the Irish scene on Saturday April 22nd at the Devenish Complex in West Belfast.

As has been previously announced, ‘A New Era’ will be headlined by an eight-round fight between Tyrone super feather Feargal McCrory and the Farrell-promoted Jay Carney. A four round light middleweight battle between Ger Healy and Tommy ‘Irish’ Carter had also been confirmed to the bill.

Now a further two opponents have been named for the seven-fight card.

Sean Magee, nephew to the three boxing Magee brothers, makes his debut on the show. The John Breen-trained lightweight will start off in a four rounder against the extremely durable Jamie Quinn [2(0)-31(1)-2] who has gone the distance with the likes of Zelfa Barrett (twice) and Isaac Lowe. Indeed his only stoppage came against Belfast talent Anto Cacace last year.

Joe Hillerby [11(2)-3(2)] makes his return to the ring after nineteen months out, and he will have to be sharp for his comeback four rounder when he takes on hugely respected journeyman Willie Warburton [22(3)-106(2)-9]. Last year alone the Englishman scored five upset victories as an away fighter, as well as a further two draws. Two of these wins came against established names Jason Welborn and Rob Hunt. 29 year old Warburton has faced numerous Irish fighters in his career, giving tough tests to Sonny Upton and Paddy Gallagher (twice), as well as drawing with Dean Byrne, and beating Ger Healy.

Also on the bill, but with currently unconfirmed opponents, are Dan McShane, Mathew Fitzsimons, and Sean McGlinchey.

Tickets for ‘A New Era’ are available from the boxers involved on the bill at the following prices: £20 (standing), £35 (unreserved seating), and £50 (reserved seating).
