Michael Nevin fights for a place in the World Championship last 16 today

 

Michael Nevin will look to become the first Irish fighter into the last 16 of the 2019 World Elite Championships today.

The Portlaoise BC fighter meets Lithuania’s Vytautas Balsys for a place in the next round and is the only Irish fighter in action on Saturday.

The young middleweight prospect, who has one win under his belt at the 20th edition of the tournament, and Balsys go head-to-head over three, three minute rounds in the 11th bout on Saturday’s program.

Azerbaijan’s Amin Kushkhov and Russia’s No. 8 seed Gleb Bakshi clash in the corresponding contest.

Boxing begins at 11am (Irish time) on Saturday morning and 3pm local time.

Aidan Walsh impressed on his Friday the 13th World Elite debut yesterday en route to victory over Israeli welter Miroslav Kapuler-Cishchenko.
