Meli to challenge McDonagh for Irish super middleweight title next week

JJ McDonagh will defend his Irish super middleweight title against Belfast’s Alfredo Meli next week.

Westmeath’s McDonagh defends the strap for the first time since he buckled it around his waist with victory over Lee Murtagh back in 2012 in the York Hall on May 29.

Both Darren Cruise and Alan Donnellan had their sights set on the domestic strap, but Meli moves up from middleweight to challenge the 29 year old.

McDonagh will be hoping to retain the strap, but Meli will be looking to join the likes of Ray Close, Jim Rock, Andy Lee and Anthony Fitzgerald with victory in only the 12th ever Irish super middleweight title fight.
