Barry McGuigan: This is Frampton’s time he is making his own History

BARRY McGuigan secured legendary boxing status when he claimed the featherweight WBA World title back in 1985.

The Clones Cyclone’s now historic career peaked when he dethroned Puerto Rican great Eusebio Pedroza in front of a sold out Loftus Road crowd and with an estimated 20 million people  watching on the BBC.

McGuigan’s protege, Carl Frampton is close to emulating the Cyclone Promotion CEO’s World title winning success and indeed McGuigans level of popularity.

Despite the gap in time and the difference in weight and style comparisons have always been made between the pair, but McGuigan claims this is Frampton’s time and ‘The Jackal’s’ own journey.

“Carl is making his own history, he’s the biggest draw in the super-bantamweight division and he’s not even a world champion yet,” said McGuigan,

“He’s clever, he’s smart, he’s aggressive. He can box going forwards, he can box going backwards and he can knock guys out with either hand.

“We’re expecting an improved and revved-up Kiko Martinez and it’s going to be a tough fight. But Kiko fights coming at you, he can’t suddenly reinvent himself.”
