McGuigan: I won’t hold out much hope Matchroom have walked away before

While Eddie Hearn has this week claimed he is ‘very hopeful’ that Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg will meet in the new year Irish Boxing Legend Barry McGuigan isn’t as confident.

Hearn has claimed the fight is ‘closer than ever’ and revealed positive talks took place in London on Tuesday exciting fight fans in Ireland, Britain and indeed around the World.

Former World champion and current Cyclone CEO McGuigan confirmed that talks did indeed take place and claims the fight is a possibility, but indicated ‘The Jackal’ and current custodian of the IBF super bantamweight World title has options.

The Clones Cyclone didn’t sport the same optimistic tone as Hearn when he made an appearance on Second Captains Live last night hinting that Matchroom may not agree to Cyclone Promotions terms.

“They’ve (Jake and Blaine McGuigan) been speaking to Eddie Hearn, amongst others, and Al Haymon about Carl’s next fight

“There’s a possibility of the Quigg fight, maybe it will happen, this is the third time that we have sat down with them, maybe it will happen this time.

“I will not hold out much hope because they’ve walked away a couple of times before.”
