Sean McGlinchey [2(0)-2(1)] has called on Julio Cesar [3(1)-4(3)] to ‘do the right thing’ and give him a rematch.

The Angola-born Belfast puncher stopped the Derry fighter to claim a career best, possibly even career-changing, win on Celtic Clash 9 just over a week ago.

Since the win the 35-year-old has been talking about staying at title level and has his set his sights on the Irish title.

However, ‘Mummy’s Bhoy’ believes Cesar should give him a rematch before considering any other fight.

The Boxing Ireland fighter doesn’t believe the win was earned fairly, pointing out, an after the break shot proved the difference in the fight.

In the fourth round of a bout scheduled for eight, Cesar did land crisp to force his rival into taking a knee. The referee docked a point – so it’s safe to assume the shots landed after the break – but McGlinchey was visibly shaken up and stopped to the body in the next round.

Speaking a week after the Celtic Clash defeat claims he was in ‘survival mode’ from when the ‘illegal’ shot landed. The 27-year-old is adamant it was the defining moment of the contest and as a result believes he should be granted a rematch,

“I was hit with two big shots after the ref calls break, approx 3 seconds after. I feel that it was a massive changing point in the fight. I don’t remember much from fight after I was hit with that, but before that punch I was feeling good, and coming on strong,” he told Irish-boxing.com.

“I was fighting on survival mode after that illegal punch. I didn’t release how big the punch was and how much I was hurt till I looked back and I seen the video. It was soo late,” he adds before calling for a rematch.

“My team got straight onto Boxing Ireland to get the rematch. Deep down he knows that it was an illegal punch that caused the damage, he should do the right thing and let me fix the wrong.”

Having previously been perceived as a journey man and written off before the fight, Cesar celebrated wildly upon securing the victory. The jubilation was somewhat understandable, but it left McGlinchey’s corner visibly annoyed. The fighter, who is back in the gym training, has no issue with it, but has no personal recollection of it.

“The celebration didn’t bother me I didn’t remember it till I seen it on video. It didn’t bother me it just shows you how surprised he was.”
