McDonagh secures Celtic title shot in Scotland

Dylan McDonagh[3(1)-2]Ā has become the latest Irish boxer to be given the chance to win a title in Scotland.

In recent times Jay Byrne has fought for the BUI Celtic plus won and successfully defended BBBofC Celtic title in Scotland, whilst Keane McMahonĀ will travel toĀ AberdeenĀ to face the unbeatenĀ Dean SutherlanĀ for the vacantĀ BUI Celtic welterweight titleĀ on Saturday in early May.

Carl McDonald andĀ Vladimir Belujsky also got late notice fights at the home of our Celtic cousins last weekend- although the scoring in the McDonald fight left a sour taste.Ā

Jobstown native McDonagh is up next and like McMahon will challenge for the BUI Celtic strap on a Sam Kynoch show on May 4.

The 33 year old will fight undefeated Billy Stuart [7(2)-0] a fighter 12 years his junior for the vacant strap in just over a months time.

McDonagh goes into the clash on the back of two defeats having lost on the road to Sean McGoldrickĀ  before an Irish super bantamweight reverse to fellow Jobstown fighter McDonald in November.

Both displays prompted most to suggest the Jonathan Lewins trained fighter had plenty to offer, but may be best served moving back down to his natural weight, super fly.

What weight his May 4 clash will play out at has yet to be confirmed, but considering Stuart has fought as high as featherweight it’s unlikely the clash will play out down at super flyweight.
