Marco McCullough may have been just handed the chance to secure a shot at the EU title.

Yesterday the EBU confirmed Anthony Cacace and Ruddy Encarnacion were to fight for the strap with a deal to be put in place before October 11.

With a title fight on the horizion doubts were raised as to whether or not the former EU champ and veteran Dominican’s scheduled bout with McCullough would go ahead.

The thought process being Encarnacion may not want to risk the chance to regain the title by fighting in Belfast on October 5.

However, Irish-boxing.com has been informed Encarnacion will honour is contract with the Belfast fighter and the pair will trade leather on the Boxnation broadcast card next week.

The EBU have also confirmed defeat for the away fighter would end his chances of fighting Cacace for the EU title, stating they would quickly name another title challenger.

With that in mind it’s possible they may consider McCullough a viable challenger and call for a fight between him and his fellow Belfast super feather.

While Cacace has been assured an EU title shot, which would make him mandatory for the full EBU title, it’s believed a fighter desperate to get busy has a number of options including a possible British title eliminator which has been ordered by the BBBofC-his team haven’t officially revealed his next step.
