McCullough I am a few fights short of a Martin Lindsay dust up

HE may have beaten former super bantamweight champion of Europe Willie Casey in impressive fashion last time he entered the ring, but Marco McCullough believes he might need a fight or two before he trades leather with former British featherweight Champion Martin Lindsay.

The rumour mill has churned out a possible bout between the Irish champion and his fellow belfast puncher.

However, despite admitting it a clash with a fighter, whose lasts ring appearance was against Lee Selby, would be a crowd pleasing one, McCullough believes he is a few fights of trading leather with the experienced puncher.

“There have always been rumours surrounding a fight with me and Martin Lindsay. I think it would be a great fight, although I do think I’m a few fights behind him with experience at the minute but in a few fights who knows what will happen,” the Breens gym featherweight explained to Nathan Orr of TopClassBoxing.

The BUI Young Fighter of the Year’s performance have earned him column inches of late and there is an air of excitement surrounding the prospect. Said expectations have grown further after he stopped ‘Big Bang’ Willie Casey in Belfast last year and the fighter, who fights Andrei Isaeu for the vacant WBO European title on the ‘This is Belfast Card’ on April 4 believes the Casey fight was his breakout moment.

“It was a brave fight to take at only my 9th fight, but I sparred Casey a few months after I turned pro and handled him with ease. I’m not sure how the fight came about, but as soon as I heard I jumped at the offer. I think in that fight I grew up as a fighter just by facing an experienced fighter like Willie, it was great to get the rounds under the belt.”
