McCaskill calls for Taylor rematch also reveals Serrano talks

Jessica McCaskill [8(3)-2(0)] called out Katie Taylor [14(6)-0] after successfully defending her world titles on the same Chicago card as TJ Doheny fought on this weekend.

Since losing to Taylor on the top of a York Hall Sky-broadcast bill in December of 2017, the American has forged a very successful career for herself.

An admirable performance against the Irish star earned her a Matchroom deal, while a move from light to light welterweight paid dividends in the form of world titles.

The 35-year-old American has won WBC and WBA world titles at the weight and has returned to the Taylor radar.

The Bray star follows her old foe up the scales as she challenges WBO world champ Christina Linardatou for her 140lbs title in Manchester on November 2 – and if she does managed to become a two weight champion a unification clash with her old foe is an attractive option.

Speaking to Irish-boxing.com earlier this year, Team McCaskill revealed they were willing to rematch for the right money as soon as possible – and having successfully defended her straps with rematch victory over Erica Farias on Saturday, she called for the clash again.

McCaskill said post-fight: “We’re looking for McCaskill-Taylor II. We want the WBO and IBF belts.”

A repeat with ‘CasKILLA’ is the to do list, but it’s not priority number one for the undisputed lightweight champion of the world.

Two-weight world champion status is the next box to be ticked, then the Olympic gold medal winner will look to partake in a ‘mega fight’ with seven weight world champion Amanda Serrano. A return with Delfine Persoon is the preferred option after that and then a two weight undisputed clash with McCaskill.

However, McCaskill has designs on some other big fights of her own- and went on to name drop the likes of Serrano and Norwegian pound for pound star Cecilia Braekhus.

“We’re looking at names like Amanda Serrano. We’ve talked to their team and they would love a match like that. Cecilia Braekhus? We’re looking to make history.”

Before a victory, that came in a sloppy fight live on DAZN on Saturday, the American was claiming ‘game changer’ status most attribute to Taylor.

“I feel right now I am the game-changer,” said McCaskill, whose career was transformed by her Taylor challenge.

“There are people that have been in the game that I am dethroning, I’m on a fast-track; I’ve won two world titles and fought for three in just nine fights, I feel like I am the wildcard and people are watching to see what is going to happen next.”
