Matt Wilton kicks off Belfast card with easy win

Matt Wilton moved to the 15-0 milestone tonight in Belfast.

‘Speedy’ opened the show at the Shorts Sports and Social club in East Belfast, scoring a points win to kick off proceedings.

The Belfast welter took on Lithuanian journeyman Arvydas Trizno and claimed a rather routine win to stretch his impressive unbeaten record further.

A cagey opener saw both box almost exclusively with the jab, with Wilton much the busier.

‘Speedy’ upped the tempo in the second round, mixing in right straights into his flurries and starting to work the body with hooks more.

The Ulsterman continued with his good bodywork in the third, a round which saw Trizno start to show some more ambition.

Entering into the second half of the fight, Wilton took control futher, dominating the Baltic boxer from the outside and lifting the pace in the final minute.

It was one-way traffic by the fifth, as the home fighter was able to tee-off at will on the shelled-up Trizno.

Wilton continued to press in the final round, but a stoppage always looked unlikely against the durable Lithuanian.

Going to the scorecards, 26 year old Wilton took an expected 60:54 win

The comfortable win sees Wilton move to 15(3)-0, while Tryzno drops to 24(6)-61(8)-3 following his night’s work.

Wilton will now look to stay active and start to move into domestic title contention as the year progresses.
