Managerial move and new fight date for Shortty Carroll

Stephen Carroll [7(1)-0] has returned to his old manager as he looks to kick-start his career.

Following a brief, fight-less spell with Mack The Knife Global, Carroll has returned to veteran boxing manager and coach Tony Davitt.

The Ballyfermot welterweight racked up seven wins under Davitt, including a Celtic Nations title win over Jamesy Gorman which he subsequently defended on short notice versus Scottish champ Eddie Doyle in one of the best Irish performances of 2017.

Carroll, however, retired last Summer citing the financial uncertainty of boxing. This move was short-term, with the Dubliner then returning with MTK Global.

Scheduled to fight on the SK Promotions show at the CityWest in February, Carroll was pulled from the bill in the build-up and the card itself was then unfortunately cancelled.

The 26-year-old has been quiet since and it has today been confirmed that he will rejoin Davitt.

‘Shortty’ has an immediate fight date to look forward to and has been pencilled in to feature on the Celtic Clash 6 bill at Good Counsel GAA Club in Drimnagh on Saturday July 14th.

The Boxing Ireland and Tony Davitt co-promotion also features Owen Duffy, Chris Scuvie, John Joyce, Rohan Daté, Niall O’Connor, Graham McCormack, Aiden Metcalfe, Stephen McAfee, Keane McMahon v Jade Karam, a BUI Celtic super bantamweight title fight between Colin O’Donovan and Carl McDonald, and a big fight for Eric Donovan.

Carroll described how he was “delighted” to make the move and said that “me and Tony will be looking [for] and hunting the big fights this year, no holding back.”
