Luke Keeler confirms next fight date- last fight before a world title shot?

Luke Keeler [17(5)-2(1)-1 returns for the first time since putting himself firmly in the world title mix with a fight in Scotland in November.

The Ballyfermot fighter will take on a yet to be confirmed opponent on a big ESPN + broadcast #MTKFightNight at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on November 16.

The Irish middleweight champion and world ranked operator will provide chief support for an anticipated  showdown between Lee McGregor and Kash Farooq for the British and Commonwealth bantamweight titles.

Keeler competes on the bill fresh off of his extremely impressive win over Luis Arias on the historic Feile an Phobail card in August, which has seen him climb to #3 in the WBO rankings.

“I’m delighted to be back. I’ve stayed in the gym since my last fight and now I’m back into full time camp feeling better than ever,” Keeler explained.

“It will be nice experiencing fighting in front of Scottish fans and hopefully I’ll get a good reception and I’ll do my best to put on a show for all of the fans.

“I was pleased with my last win considering I was underdog and it was convincing win, but watching the fight back I know I can still improve so much more and I’m determined to do so in this camp.”

Keeler has had a back and forth spat with Conor McGregor of late and was linked to a possible December 14 bout with the MMA name.

However, he told Irish-boxing.com that he felt that fight would never materialise – and as a result he was going to focus on more important matters, such as securing a world title.

“The team decided to focus on a world title fight as it’s close to being agreed. I honestly don’t think he is in any position to fight anytime soon. I’ll pick up the world title and he can get himself right. When they both happen there will be more chance of it happening. I’m focusing on my own end of things now,” the 32 year-old said. 

It has been rumoured that world title shot that is ‘close to being agreed’ will come against World Amateur Championship gold medal winner and two weight pro world champ Demetrius Andrade.

Keeler is ranked as high #3 in the organisation and Andrade has a ‘beat everyone in the top 10’ remit while he waits for fights with the likes of Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin.
