Santa Cruz: I want Frampton versus Quigg winner

Three weight World champion Leo Santa Cruz wants the winner of Carl Frampton versus Scott Quigg.

The Mexican told Behind The Gloves that it has always been his plan to call out the winner of the massive February 27tg clash.

We have been here with Santa Cruz before, he has always expressed an interest in fighting both, but has admitted he has little say in who he shares a ring with and at times it seemed like his promoters, formerly Golden Boy and now Al Haymon and PBC, were not willing to take risks with the big names.

However, the former WBC super bantamweight title holder, defends his WBC featherweight title against former Frampton and Quigg foe Kiko Martinez on the same night and same American telecast as Frampton versus Quigg, suggesting PBC are trying to build toward the fight.

Frampton had pursued Santa Cruz to no avail, before he managed to get his IBF title shot, and it would be interesting to see if the Mexican would move back down in weight to fight the Belfast man if they both overcome their respective February 27th tests.

Regardless, it is positive to see Santa Cruz asked about the bout and state it’s one he wants.

“I will be calling out the winner of that fight if I get passed Kiko. That was always my plan, hopefully we get the win and then I plan to call out Carl Frampton or Scott Quigg, the winner of that fight. Hopefully I do well against Kiko and I get the winner of that fight,” said Santa Cruz before sitting on the fence come prediction time.

“The truth is it’s a 50/50. I think it could go either way. I think it might come down to who lands big first. If Carl Frampton catches him first he will win, if not it’s Quigg.”
