Leeside Revolution – FIGHT CARD UPDATE

Boxing’s return to Cork continues to grow.

Two more boxing names have been added to the Leeside Revolution bill on Saturday July 20th.

Craig McCarthy [6(1)-0] and Stephen McAfee [5(2)-1(1)-1] will both appear on the first pro boxing show to visit Cork in over a decade.

The Neptune Stadium hosted show will be topped by New York-based Macroom fighter Noel Murphy, who hopes to challenge for the Irish title on his return home.

This week has seen a host of talent confirmed on the card with two more names added late Friday.

Joining Limerick’s Graham McCormack, Siobhan O’Leary, who should draw a crowd from nearby Kerry, and Sam Carroll on the undercard will be ‘Built2Last’ and ‘Showtime’.

McAfee becomes the fourth Boxing Ireland fighter to secure a slot on the show and will be looking to bounce back from his Irish title defeat to Eric Donovan last March.

It’s the super featherweight’s first time fighting outside of Dublin, but he has Cork previous having twice traded leather with the Rebel county’s Colin O’Donovan in what turned out to be Fight of the Year contenders.

Irish title hopeful McCarthy has plans to return to Waterford with a show this September but will visit Cork with his army of followers first.

The Stephen O’Rourke trained fighter is part of an interesting super middleweight mix and will be looking to build on his first stoppage win last time out.

On top of the six pros in action, amateur Tommy Hyde will also box on the show. The Elite Senior runner-up has a big following and is expected to move into the pros soon – although Joe Ward’s abandonment of the amateurs may prompt a stay.

Before the boxing begins on Leeside there will be Muay Thai action – with promoter Martin Horgan having his background in this code.

Alongside the seven Irish boxers already confirmed, there are a further six Muay Thai bouts including a WBC title fight between Sean Clancy and Alessandro Sara.
