Larry Fryers is ready for Ray – but won’t chase Moylette match-up

Larry Fryers insists the ball is in Ray Moylette’s court regarding whether they do eventually fight.

The pair were meant to do battle in Boston for the New England light welterweight title earlier this month but this bout was shelved when visa issues prevented Moylette from crossing the Atlantic.

Fryers, the ‘away fighter’ in the match-up, still got a slot on the Murphys Boxing bill at the Encore Casino and stopped Brian Abraham in the second round having been down in the opener himself.

While Moylette [11(4)-1(0)] has stated definitively that he wants Fryers [11(4)-1(1)] next, the New York-based Monaghan man, who has also featured on bills at Madison Square Garden and the Barclays Center, isn’t pushed.

There is a ‘could take it or leave it’ vibe given by Fryers who told Irish-Boxing.com that “to be honest, I didn’t miss out on the Moylette fight, he missed out on the Fryers fight.”

“My reputation and popularity has grown from that fight [v Abraham] so it’s him who missed out in my opinion as I got to fight in front of an amazing crowd at an amazing venue.”

“Look, if the Moylette fight is going to happen then it’s totally up to them to make it happen as I did everything I could to get the first fight going. It’s up to them to make it happen.”

The last 18 months have seen Fryers have the dramatic clash with Abraham, a battle with Dakota Polley which most agreed was the highlight of the Crawford-Khan undercard, an eight-round war with Ronald Rivas, and even the ultimately disappointing fight with Nikolai Buzolin where he went out on his shield.

‘Lethal Larry’ is certainly developing a reputation among Irish fans for guaranteed entertainment.

He notes how “I’ve always been an exciting fighter or so I’ve been told, so I’m just being me and thankfully the crowd are liking what they’re seeing and want to keep seeing more.”

“I’m over the moon that I’m a fighter that people want to come see and, for me, that’s what it’s all about, giving the crowd a good night and entertaining fight.”
