Eric Donovan [10(6)-0] will have fly solo in Glasgow tonight after his coach Kenneth Egan was left stranded in Dublin airport this afternoon.

The Athy native is looking to finish a fairly positive year on a high with victory at the Crown Plaza Hotel, but will have to navigate his way through the fight without his coach.

Such is the level of opposition, the talent and mindset of Donovan that he should be able to secure his eleventh pro win regardless, but the scenario isn’t ideal.

The pair would normally have flown abroad a day or two before the fight, but both were scheduled to head out today because they were working at the National Stadium last night.

Olympic medal winner, Egan was doing TV work for TG4 while Donovan was coaching Jude Gallagher to flyweight Irish title victory.

The Irish pro featherweight champion headed out this morning, presumably to weigh in, while Egan was set to follow suit this afternoon.

However, when the former light heavyweight amateur sensation reached the airport he was informed he couldn’t travel. According to Egan his seat was double booked and despite booking in October there was no room for him on the plane.

Donovan put out an SOS, but to no avail as the earliest Egan could get to Scotland would be 10 pm, just as his fighter was getting out of the ring.

Egan aslo took to social media to explain the situation.
