Kelvin McDonald promising knockout performance following football deal

Kelvin McDonald [1(0)-0] is planning to stand out man-of-the-match style on a stacked ‘Celtic Clash 8’ card set for Belfast next month.

The new to the game pro recently announced a sponsorship deal with NIFL Championship team Larne FC and is now keen to impress on the Boxing Ireland show.

McDonald is predicting a knockout performance in just his second pro fight following disappointment last month.

‘Boom Boom’ will drop down to featherweight for his four-rounder at the Devenish Complex and is confident he will be explosive at the weight.

“Come May 25th, expect a high-paced fight with heavy punches,” McDonald told Irish-Boxing.com.

“I’m coming for a KO and going to prove a point at the new weight. I know I can do it thanks to Blueberry Nutrition catering all my meal plans keeping me strong and helping the weight fall off. I feel amazing!”

The ‘heavy punches’ promised might be have the weight of frustration behind them.

The Larne native was left annoyed when a grudge match with Dublin’s Dollar Declan Kenna set for the ‘Clash of the Titans’ card fell through and is delighted to get the chance to get out so soon after the disappointment.

“I was gutted and disappointed. After all his talk I thought he would of been man enough to show up but obviously not.

“I’m over the moon to fight on ‘Celtic Clash 8’ in Belfast after that fight falling through. It’s great not having to wait too long to be back on another show. I have to give massive thanks to Boxing Ireland for that.”

McDonald has showed ambition by taking on respected journeyman Alec Bazza on his debut as well as agreeing to an All-Irish clash that ultimately fell through for his second fight.

The 19-year-old has no real preference with regard to who mans the away corner come May 25th but warns that, whoever it is, is in for a rough night.

“Fighting Bazza on my debut and an All Ireland clash in my second pro fight shows that I will fight anyone, so opponents don’t really matter to me. Whoever Boxing Ireland put in front of me I will take them out.”

“I haven’t got any names for opponents for Celtic Clash 8. Boxing Ireland know what’s best for me. They see my ambition and also want to see me be tested hence Bazza on my debut,” he added before reflecting on the fact his local football club now sponsor him.

“It’s unreal Larne F.C. coming on board and supporting me. It’s massive for me and the town, linking the two sports together. It all came about when their chairman got in contact with me a few months back.”

“I’d definitely say I’m the first sponsored boxer from Northern Ireland from a football club or one of very few.”
