Kelvin McDonald excited to unwrap early Christmas present Aiden Metcalfe

Christmas has come early for Kelvin McDonald [2-0].
After registering just two victories over journeyman opposition ‘Boom Boom’ has secured an all Irish fight and couldn’t be happier.
The Boxing Ireland fighter will take on promotional stablemate Aiden Metcalfe [2-1(1)] on the October 12 Celtic Clash 9 card.
It’s exactly the kind of fight and challenge McDonald has been looking for and he claims it has given him an extra boost in training.
“I am buzzing for this fight,” McDonald told Irish-boxing.com.
“I’m so much happier in the gym knowing how much this fight means for the winner. For journeymen I was nearly dragging myself to the gym now I am the first in and last one to leave. It feels like Christmas has come early

“Everyone is in high spirits and there is a great buzz in the gym because we are all excited for this one. The training has changed because it’s a six rounder – it’s far more intense.”
Stepping into domestic action early has become less rare of late – particularly in terms of the Celtic Clash series – yet to do so three fights in is commendable.
McDonald explains he felt he got tested in his first two outings and wanted another step up this time around.
“The thought behind an all Irish so early is that I just wanted the step up in class from journeymen. I’ve been thrown in at the deep in early on against two tough journeymen that came to win, so I now believe it’s time for the step and and Aiden is the perfect step up.”

The Larne native revealed had been looking to fight Dubliner Metcalfe on the Celtic Clash 8 card, but his eagerness to trade leather doesn’t mean he expects an easy fight.
“Aiden is a great fighter and tried a step up (against Allan Phelan) in his last fight and was unlucky. He was starting to come into the fight until he got caught, so I know it’s going to be a tough fight and I know there will be points in the fight where I won’t have it all my way,” he adds before predicting victory.

“I predict is a tough fight, but I feel I can adapt my skills to whatever he brings on the night. I’m expecting the win, be it  on points or maybe I catch him late and stop him.”
