Keane McMahon secures Celtic title shot in Scotland

Keane McMahon [5(2)-0] will make the move up to title level in his next contest.

It has been confirmed that the Dublin welterweight will travel to Aberdeen to face the unbeaten Dean Sutherland [6(2)-0] for the vacant BUI Celtic welterweight title on Saturday May 4th.

The eight-round title fight was announced tonight at the Kynoch Boxing show in Turnberry – which Jay Byrne, the previous holder of the belt, headlines in a defence of his BBBoC Celtic title versus Scottish champ Stefan Sanderson

Boxing Ireland’s McMahon was ringside at the Trump resort to observe Sutherland in action – beating Ryan Toms on points – before their fight was officially announced.

McMahon will look to take his first step towards domestic dominance, with the fight giving him Irish title eligibility when he faces Sutherland in his native Aberdeen at the Treetop Hilton Hotel in a Kynoch headliner

‘The Iceman’s’ manager, David Murphy, is confident that his young prospect has what it takes to leave Scotland with strap in hand.

“Our aim for 2019 was to make a move for domestic titles and we believe this is the right fight at the right time for Keane,” said Murphy who has been vocal in his desire to progress McMahon into meaningful fights.

“We are confident Keane can do the job and take the title home, this is what we have been working towards.”

McMahon noted how “I watched Dean tonight and I’m really confident that I will do the job. Don’t get me wrong he is a good fighter and I will have to bring my a-game but I’ve definitely got the ability to win this fight.”

First up for McMahon will be a four-round warm-up fight on the March 30th ‘Clash of the Titans’ bill at the National Stadium which will be shown live on TG4.
