Injury forces Keane McMahon out of Celtic Clash 9

Keane McMahon [6(3)-1] has been forced to pull out of his proposed Celtic Clash 9 fight.

The Dubliner was due to trade leather against Nathan Hardy on the Boxing Ireland show, but won’t be travelling to the Devenish to fight next month.

‘The Iceman’ suffered a fractured nose during sparring and has since been pulled out of the fight.

It’s disappointing for the 25-year-old who was determined to get back to winning ways and put behind him his first career defeat.

McMahon lost to Dean Sutherland over in Scotland when challenging for the BUI Celtic title last time out. He was hoping to put some distance between himself and the May ‘learning experience’ in Belfast next month.

The Boxing Ireland fighter was hoping to secure a win, that would set up an Irish title shot on Celtic Clash 10, which is rumoured to play out in December.

His manager Dave Murphy previously sent out the following message to all the Irish welterweights,

“We want the Irish title. We’ll fight any of them for it after Celtic Clash 9.

“If Noely Murphy wants to do it here or in American we will.  We’d fight Rohan Date, he has spoken about wanting to fight for the title. If Jay Byrne wants it that would be a good fight for Dublin. We’d do that fight in Scotland if he wants too. Dylan Moran the same, we can go to Waterford if he wants a homecoming fight there. Tell any of them we are here and we want to fight for the Irish title.”

It’s unsure as to whether the injury would delay the aforementioned Irish title plans. McMahon or his team may want a warm up before jumping straight back in at domestic level.  However, one thing is certain ‘The Iceman’ won’t be in the Celtic Clash ring on October 12.

“Keano is out of the Celtic Clash 9 card,” Murphy told Irish-boxing.com.

“He has fractured his nose, so he can’t spar or fight for a month. He will stay fit and will continue to train, but he can’t fight on that card. We are hoping to be back out before Christmas and get the ball rolling again then. We would like to thank our sponsors at this time Dubling Plumbing and Gad, Bowbell Security Systems, CSL Scaffolding and Connect Scaffolding for their continued support. It’s at times like this when that support is most needed and appreciated.”
