Katelynn Phelan promises to surprise with something ‘big’ on Leeside Revolution card

Katelynn Phelan [1(0)-0] believes she will surprise everyone and show her true talent when she fights in Cork this weekend.

Ireland’s youngest ever female pro operator debuted back in March and registered a comfortable win over Monika Antonik live on TG4.

The 19-year-old did what was expected but warned more was to come post her first paid victory on the Leeside Revolution card.

The Kildare native pointed out with more time to adapt to fighting without the head gear and with more experience, that people would get a clearer picture as to why she was vaunted as one Ireland’s brightest amateur prospects when operating in the underage grades.

The new Boxing Ireland signing suggests step one of that process could play out at the Neptune Stadium this Saturday night.

In fact she seems to be planning something jaw-droppingly big.

“I believe I will be a lot more explosive and more technical in this fight, I have learned a lot of new things in this camp,” the younger sister of pro Allan Phelan told Irish-Boxing.com.

“No one will expect what I will bring, but it will be big. It’s time to become 2-0 and show my talent more than I did in my debut, I’m very excited about this fight.”

It’s confident, even bold from the St Brigid’s graduate and potentially comes from a camp she claims was focused and record-breaking to a degree.

“Camp went really well. I’m very happy with it. I broke a lot of personal records.

“I’ve been training with my Dad in St Brigids, Kildare and with Niall Barrett In Unit3 in Naas.”

“I’ve had great rounds with Grainne Walsh, Siobhan  O’Leary and Sinéad Kavangh too.”

Phelan faces Galina Gyumliyska [11(1)-40(9)-1],  a fighter over 20 years her senior and an operator with 50 plus more fights to her name – including a pair of bouts versus trailblazer Jane Couch.

She expects to be exposed to every pro trick and dark art in the journeyman handbook.

“I’m fighting Galina Gyumliyska from Bulgaria, she is a very experienced lady and I know she will know every trick in the book.”
