Karl Kelly out prove that he’s “not just a big hitter” on pro debut

Karl Kelly will finally make his debut this Autumn, and the Dublin welter is keen to show what he is made of.

The St Margaret’s boxer enters the pro ranks with a reputation as a big hitter, having won Four Nations and European Semi-Pro titles via knockout, but Kelly wants to prove that he is more than a slugger.

Kelly makes his paid bow on the Red Corner Promotions ‘Champions Elect’ bill on Saturday October 7th at the National Stadium.

The 22 year old told Irish-Boxing.com that “it’s been a while coming and I’m delighted Jay [Byrne] my manager could secure this date for me especially at home in Dublin.”

“The lads have given me a tough opener but that’s what I want as I am not in the sport to take handy fights. I want to be tested and learn from each fight.”

Kelly is hoping to put on an impressive, well rounded performance in eight weeks time. He outlined how “I’ve always kind of had the pro style, however I’ve a lot of learning to do and I’ve got to work on composure when in the ring as I have a habit of getting excited.”

“Jay has stripped me back to basics for the start of this journey. I hope to be able to settle into the fight and show people that I can box and I’m not just a big hitter, but hopefully I can use my experience from the semi pro fights to get the job done.”

With his manager also being a well-supported pro fighter, a buzz is already building ahead of Kelly’s pro bow. He described how “Jay has the whole gym talking about this one and we’re hoping everyone will come out and support me along with the local area

“A lot of Jays fans are saying they’ll be there to support me from the get go.”

“People looking for tickets can contact me on Facebook or call me on 0876887402.”

The ‘Champions Elect’ show also features Irish champion Paddy McDonagh, the return of Allan Phelan, Victor Rabei, a fight between super middleweights Vladimir Belujsky and Manny Bique, and a BUI Celtic title clash between Dublin’s Craig O’Brien and former Welsh champion Lee Churcher.
