Bigger and better Jordan Moore confident ahead of Elite Senior assault

In less than a year Jordan Moore has gone from being a freakishly tall light flyweight to a strong and rounded bantamweight.

The Dublin 18 year old has grown up through the weights and for the first time in a long time he is feeling strong – and not towering over his opponents.

49kg at the World Youths last November and 52kg at the European U22s in March, the Glasnevin stylist is enjoying the move to 56kg ahead of a busy next couple of months.

On Friday night he had his first fight at the higher weight, an entertaining move-around with U18 champion Craig Kavanagh of Crumlin on the Glasnevin BC show in the Ringside Club.

Speaking afterwards, Moore told Irish-Boxing.com that “I felt good, just a bit tired because it was my first fight back in I don’t know how long. I’ve to get a lot sharper.”

“I feel strong at the weight, I’ve punch resistance when I get caught, I feel good.”

Charting his rapid ascent through the weights, a move he is enjoying, Moore described how “I’ve put on ten kilos in less than a year. After the Europeans I shot up to 60kg, and it wasn’t fat either.”

“I’m boxing and fighting now, doing a bit of both, whereas when I was at the lower weights, 49 and 52, I was just moving and using the range.”

Entering the adult ranks this year, Moore claimed the U22 title and won his first fight at the Europeans, beating a Ukrainian, before missing out on a medal against England’s Will Cawley.

Taking confidence from his recent trips to major tournaments, the Dubliner is ready to take a crack at the Elite Seniors

He outlined how “I’ve the Celtic Box Cup at the end of this month, then I got picked to go on a trip to Belgium with the Dublin team, and then you’ve the Intermediates, the Under 22s, and the Elites – I’m definitely going to do the Elites this year, I’m confident.”
