One of Ireland’s most successful New York-based fighters is backing Carl Frampton to turn the Barclays Centre into a ‘Little Ireland’ for his fight with Leo Santa Cruz on Saturday.

Derry’s John Duddy, who wowed New York crowds with his all-action style in the 2000s, has been spending some time with Team Frampton ahead of the clash with the WBA featherweight champion this weekend, and he is impressed with Frampton’s attitude.

The Derry Destroyer spoke to BBC and explained how “Cruz is one of the favourites here in America, he comes and fights and he leaves everything out there.”

“I’ve a lot of respect for Carl Frampton for coming over here to New York and fighting this guy.”

“If you want to be the best you have to fight the best.”

Duddy is backing ‘The Jackal’ to grab victory in a close fight in two days time, reasoning that “itt’s a toss of a coin and I always like having an opinion after the first round.”

“But I just think the stage is set for him.”

“I’m one hundred percent behind Carl, I think he’s going to pull it off and make New York a second home for the Irish boxing fans.”

“I’m just looking forward to an exciting night.”
